The province
of Chiriqui in Republic de Panama has some fantastic scuba
diving. Divers will find plenty of everything in
Panama's Pacific waters, from sharks, whales, dolphins, black
marlin and turtles to volcanic formations. PADI
Dive-master Carlos Spragge, who has many years of experience
diving in the Gulf of Chiriqui has opened a new scuba diving
operation, The M/V “Miss Bess” operates throughout the gulf
for cruises from 1 to 7 days. The “Miss Bess” is also
available for day trips to Secas or Ladrones, minimum 4
divers, maximum 8. The scuba diving is terrific around
Islas Las Ladrones and Islas Secas, where the water is
clearest and the sea life the richest. Visibility in these
unspoiled waters can be as much as 30 meters.

Isla Boca Brava (Brave
mouth) is a small island situated in the Gulf of Chiriqui,
which is home to the Parque Nacional Marino Golfo de
Chiriqui, a national marine park with an area of 14,740
hectares protecting 25 islands, 19 coral reefs and
abundant wildlife. Further to the south is Isla de Coiba,
which is considered one of Central America’s best diving
spots and is renowned for its abundance of fish.
Especially interesting are the opportunities divers have
to see Pilot, Sperm and Humpback whales.

Panama Fat
Diver Magazine May 2005
We
thought our diving in Panama was over, but had an
unexpected bonus when we traveled a little way down
the coastline and stayed on Boca Brava, an island
populated mainly by howler monkeys. In nearby Boca
Chica, there is a new dive center. Its owner, Carlos
Spragge, has given a great deal of thought to his
operation, with a custom dive boat and all-new
equipment.
